New Vocational College Announced

Through these programs we have recently created, the Gambella Vocational School and Theological College aims to transform lives into long-term success stories, and provide graduates with the skills they need to thrive in the workforce.

We are committed to fostering a learning environment that nurtures both personal and professional growth, helping students build careers and secure their futures.

In Gambella, many young people spend their time idly (bored) without supervision, seeking shelter under trees or engaging in petty theft. A significant number of these Youth are heavily involved in criminal activities, with many joining gangs that have brought increased violence to the Region. This situation has created a troubling environment where violence and crime are becoming more prevalent.

We are committed to helping these young people break free from the cycle of poverty. In July 2024, a tragic incident occurred: a young man entered a family home, where he found a woman and her baby. The man violently attacked the woman, leaving her dead while allowing the children to flee. The baby was later found crying outside the house, while the mother lay lifeless inside.

This incident highlights the growing urgency of addressing the underlying issues in the region—poverty, lack of opportunities, and escalating violence.

Our mission is to combat poverty and provide transformative educational opportunities to youth in these regions, equipping them with the skills and values needed to thrive in both their careers and communities.

To further this mission, we aim to establish ourselves as the leading vocational institution in Ethiopia and South Sudan. Below are several strategic initiatives to help promote and develop our college as the premier choice for vocational education.

1. Strategic Partnerships with Local Communities and Churches

·       Building Local Alliances: Forge strong partnerships with local churches, community organizations, and faith-based groups to increase awareness of the college’s mission. These partnerships will not only broaden our reach but also provide valuable support systems for students and their families.

·       Community Engagement Projects: Encourage students to participate in community service initiatives, fostering leadership skills while simultaneously addressing local needs. These activities will demonstrate our commitment to the socio-economic development of the region.

2. Scholarships and Financial Aid Programs

·       Targeted Scholarships: Offer scholarships specifically designed for students from underprivileged backgrounds. These could be funded by Christian organizations, local businesses, or philanthropic donors.

·       Work-Study Opportunities: Establish work-study programs where students can earn stipends or reduce tuition fees through part-time employment on campus. This model can alleviate financial barriers and provide practical work experience.

3. Curriculum Focused on Relevant, Practical Skills

·       Vocational Training Aligned with Local Needs: Design programs that offer hands-on training in fields critical to the local economy, such as agriculture, construction, healthcare, renewable energy, and information technology. These practical skills will ensure that our graduates are highly employable and capable of contributing to regional development.

·       Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development: In addition to vocational training, provide comprehensive courses on entrepreneurship, leadership, and business development. This will enable graduates to not only secure jobs but also create employment opportunities within their communities.

4. Comprehensive Outreach and Promotion Strategies

·       Digital Presence: Build and maintain a strong online presence through social media, an engaging website, and content marketing strategies. Sharing success stories of students and alumni will highlight the impact of our college and attract potential students.

·       Student and Alumni Testimonials: Collect and promote video or written testimonials from current students and successful alumni. These personal stories will help prospective students understand the transformative experience your college offers.

5. Building Employment Pipelines and Community Development

·       Industry Partnerships: Establish collaborations with local and international businesses to create an employment pipeline for graduates. These partnerships can also offer opportunities for internships and apprenticeships.

·       Internship Programs: Create structured internship opportunities with local businesses, NGOs, and government organizations. This real-world experience will enhance students’ employability and career readiness.

6. Christian-Based Mentorship and Counseling Programs

·       Faith-Based Mentoring: Develop mentorship programs that pair students with experienced professionals who can guide them both in their careers and spiritual growth. This holistic approach aligns with our Christian values of service and leadership.

·       Comprehensive Student Support: Offer counseling services to help students manage stress, navigate academic challenges, and support their mental well-being. By providing a nurturing environment, we aim to support students in all aspects of their lives.

7. Youth Empowerment and Leadership Development

·       Youth Leadership Camps: Organize leadership development camps for young people in the region, creating awareness about the college while equipping youth with essential life skills.

·       Skills Development Programs: Offer training in areas like conflict resolution, financial literacy, and communication. These initiatives will benefit both students and the wider community, fostering an environment of growth and empowerment.

8. Strong Alumni Network and Engagement

·       Alumni Network: Establish a vibrant alumni network that actively contributes to the college's growth and development through mentorship, guest lectures, financial contributions, and job placements.

·       Alumni Success Stories: Regularly showcase the accomplishments of alumni to demonstrate the lasting impact of our educational programs on both their personal and professional lives.

9. Global and Local Collaboration

·       International Partnerships: Collaborate with Christian-based institutions and organizations globally to offer exchange programs that expose students to international perspectives and foster cross-cultural understanding.

·       Regional Outreach to South Sudan: Develop targeted programs and outreach initiatives to engage youth in South Sudan. Tailoring our offerings to meet their unique needs can position the college as a key educational resource in the region.

10. Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship

·       Green Campus Initiatives: Integrate sustainable practices into the campus operations, such as using renewable energy, reducing waste, and promoting eco-friendly practices. This demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship.

·       Agri-Business Training: Create specialized programs in sustainable agriculture, agro-processing, and renewable energy to address local challenges while creating employment opportunities for graduates.

11. Faith-Based Curriculum and Spiritual Formation

APRIL 17, 2024 Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Last week wrapped up a month-long mission trip from March 13 - April 11 where we had the privilege to travel to Gambella, Ethiopia to provide different services and support to the vulnerable orphans and widows. The trip went very well and I was delighted to see the orphans and spend time feeding the kids as they were very happy for the feeding program and the new classroom tools. Now, the school building construction project is in progress, and we have begun working with an engineer to accomplish this big goal. We'll be sharing more soon, so be on the lookout for details in our next update. Those living in Gambella are truly blessed to have you in the U.S. come alongside them, praying daily, giving them support with your gifts out of the abundance of your heart!
